I Learned A Hard Lesson Today

I managed to run an 82 mile relay race this weekend and my feet came out — well surprisingly well.  No major blisters and no noticeable pain.  WIN!

Then I decided to go on a little walk today during a break that I had in my work schedule.

And managed to TOTALLY screw up my feet.

Yes my friends.  Even if your runners feet are beast enough to tackle a relay, they are likely not beast enough to tackle a long hilly walk in heels.

After 3 slow miles around my new work-hood, I am not walking barefoot and sporting 5 different bandaids.  I kid you not.  How does that even happen?  Two major pinky toe blisters, two ankle blisters, and one big toe blister.  Brilliant Ash.  I guess it’s a good thing I wasn’t planning on running until well later into the week, right?

Ahh well. . . you win some {like running a relay} and you lose some {like I will be losing these heels}.

My mangled feet didn’t stop me from enjoying a nice {warm} little bike ride with the hubby post work to catch up on our first days back in the office.

8 and a half miles of hills and lake riding, the perfect way to wrap up a Monday Tuesday and work up an appetite.

Labor Day

Now that the real business for the day is done, let’s backtrack to my Labor Day Activities.

I could lie to you all and make us sound a lot cooler than we are, but I like you guys.  So I wont.  Needless to say Zach and I had an epic Parenthood marathon broken up only by a mile long walk with the Gusman, prepping dinner, and catching up with a few friends.  Yup — that’s how we spent our Labor Day.  And I wouldn’t change a thing.

We did also manage to do the right Summer thing and grill out.photo 2 (40)

A large green salad to share, with chicken for me, steak for Z, and grilled veggies to share.  At least we celebrated the holiday appropriately in one sense.

How was your Labor Day Weekend?  What did you do?

A Snuggly Kinda Night

Last night was a snuggly night here in the Jara household

Yes, my 70 lb shepherd thinks he is a lap dog. . . and I am A-OK with that sometimes :).  Maybe he was thanking me for the long walk enjoying the warm-ish evening…or he was just trying to hide his eyes from the awful TV that I was watching (I’m almost TOO ashamed to admit to this today, but Real World EX-Plosion and Teen Mom.  Please don’t stop reading . . . ).

Dinner last night was another meal-for-one thanks to grocery shopping at my local Whole Foods hot/salad bar for produce 🙂

BBQ Chicken Quesadillas

  • 4 oz of chicken, precooked
  • 2 small-ish tortillas
  • 1/4 of sweet potato
  • 1 tablespoon of corn
  • 1 tablespoon of green onions
  • 1 small handful of spinach
  • 2 tablespoons of shredded cheddar cheese
  • tablespoon of bbq sauce and oil to cook

  • Heat your pan on medium high with a tablespoon of BBQ sauce
  • Once the pan is heated, add the chicken to cover and heat
  • Add the rest of your ingredients into the mixture
  • In another pan, prepare your pan with oil and put down first tortilla and fill it with your fillings from the other pan
  • Cook until browned and then add the second tortilla and flip it
  • Cook until that side is browned
  • Take off the heat, cut into quarters and enjoy!

I of course had a small side of greens with a ton of salsa to top the quesadilla with a couple Whole Food’s chips.

Unfortunately, for Gus, I did not share with him.  This one was all for ME 🙂

And you know I didn’t enjoy the evening without a treat right?  I brought back an oldie but SUPER goodie.

Unfortunately one little plate was not how much I ended up eating. . . sad but true.  I have no self comtrol.

This Morning

I woke up this morning and enjoyed another long walk with Gusman.  I’m trying out taking Thursday’s as my rest days because I already get to sleep in, and it’s perfect to get a nice hilly walk with Gus in the AM to stretch my legs.

I didn’t use my MapMyRun app on this one, but it was our standard 2.1 mile loop.  He seemed to enjoy it 🙂 Perfect amount of snow and ice still left on the sidewalks for him to snatch up.

And now, it’s time to get back to work and get through the long day!  Happy Thursday everyone 🙂

Question of the Morning:  Do you like snuggly pets?

A Colorful Walk

Week two of bachelorette livin’ is here 🙂

Zach really couldn’t have picked a better week to be out of town this time — being in the midst of the taper-crazies :).

He’s a smart boy, that guy.

All joking aside, for the first time in all my training cycles — I have embraced the taper.  This was a tough training cycle, but I logged plenty of good miles, I feel mentally prepared, and I’m starting to get excited.   I’m fairly content to walk it out, practice some yogis, and keep the runs shorts and easy until Sunday.

Lord knows with my luck lately I’d pay for it if I didn’t! ;).

An Afternoon Walk

On my “workout schedule” included walking 3 miles today.  So I took my lunch period and got 2 miles in while it was still nice out.

And boy was it nice

I walked around the park near my office building and enjoyed the last bit of leaves on the ground that I think Colorado is getting this season.  I may or may not have kicked and skipped through some leave piles for old times sake. . . maybe.

I loved getting some fresh air and the easy walk definitely loosened up my legs quite a bit.

By the time I got home, I walked the final mile with Gusman around our neighborhood, for a total of about 3.2 miles of intentional walking today.

With weather like this, it’s really not hard to talk myself into getting out in the  middle of the day or after a long day at work.  It’s just about perfect for it.  AND we have to soak up the last bit of evening sun we have before the time change, right?!

The party of last week continues on into tonight with a movie and easy dinner.

Turkey sandwich on a toasted “energy bar” loaf of bread with cheese, raspberry spread and greens.

And of course, my favorite chex mix made it’s way back into my grocery cart for the week.

I really can’t help it — I’m carbo loading, ok?

And now, it’s time to enjoy dinner and sit down with my chick flick of the evening

Have a great Monday night, all 🙂

Question of the Day:  Do you consider an intentional walk a workout?

Right now, you betcha!
