An AM Run and POTM Update

Good Morning! Happy Wednesday and Happy Hump Day to All 🙂

It’s date night in the Jara household, and although we haven’t nailed down a location, I am excited to get out and about with the hubby tonight.  We’ve got it between two places at this point:

We’ve been to both and have had great experience each time. . . so knowing the two of us it will be a last minute call.

To my Denver friends, which one would you pick?  Or my friends far away, if you checked out the websites which one would you pick? Considering we are the least decisive people in the world,  we could use the help.

Run Streak Continues

DSCN1329

My run streak continued this morning (if you include the strength training days that I only ran 2 miles, I’m up to 1o days in a row)

Workout of the Day:  4 miles progressive run on the treadmill

Finished in 37:12, which is actually 12 seconds slower than the run I did with Zach last night outside.  And let me tell you, I PUSHED it for that last mile this morning to get the run done because I was pushing for time.

I guess I am becoming that person that runs quicker OUTDOORS than I do on the dreaded machine?  This kind of makes me feel like a REAL runner 🙂

Pile On The Mile Update

So — with the last 3 runs that I’ve had this week, that puts me at 75.5 miles for the month of November.  24.5 miles away from my goal, with 10 days to do it.    I think I got this, right?

Question of the Afternoon: What’s the longest/best running or work out “streak” that you’ve had?

Leavin’ On A Jet Plane

Don’t know when I’ll be back again. . .

I’m not normally thankful for Zach’s traveling schedule…but this morning I am.  Free espresso, apples, coffee, and snacks?  Yes please.

An AM Run

We had to be out of the apartment by 7 this morning to catch our flight, so in order to squeeze in a quick run I had myself rolling out of bed right after 5 AM.  WOOF.

I say WOOF, but it was surprisingly easy to get moving.  I had it already set in my mind that I was doing this run, and quite frankly before the flight was the only time it was going to happen.  So, I  made it happen.

Work Out Of The Day:  4 speed miles on the treadmill

  • 1 mile warm up (940 pace)
  • 1 mile at 8 minute pace
  • 2 minute cool down
  • same 8 minute pace until I hit mile 3 (about .75 mile)
  • 2 minute cool down
  • 8 minute pace until I hit 3.9
  • cool down pace until 4

A little weird, but it worked for me.  I was surprised that for my 4th day in a row, my legs responded fairly well to the speed work and I finished right at 35:27.

That has me at 57.5 miles for the month for the POTM challenge.  So at mid month, I’m 7.5 miles ahead.  Gotta keep pushin’, but I like it.

I was looking up my miles for the year on DailyMile yesterday . . . (find me, friend me! :).  When 2013 started, I had a goal of running 1000 miles over the year.  Unfortunately, it looks like I’m at just about 760 currently.  While it looks like 1000 will be out of the cards for 2013, that original goal is still helping me push it to as close as I possibly can to 1000.  Shoot for the stars, right?

Hope you all have a GREAT Friday!  I may be a little spotty with posting this weekend, but you better believe I will be thinking about you all, taking as many pictures as possible, and posting WHENEVER I can! 🙂

Question of the Morning:  How many miles do you think you’ve run this year?

Switching Up Runs and the Scale

Good Morning and Happy Thursday everyone 🙂

Zach and I enjoyed our favorite evening last night, pizza night with a good vanilla lager.

We may do pizza a little too much in our house…but I guess I am OK about that.

This Morning

Have I mentioned how much I love sleeping in?  Maybe once or twice?

Yesterday morning I slept in and postponed my work out because my body needed it.  On Thursdays, we start work late so I was able to just sleep in an extra hour and a half and still fit in a quick and sweaty work out before the morning even started.

Workout of the Day: 4 miles on the treadmill: Easy pace

Because I am wanting to save my legs for 5 or 6 days in a row of running (3 days down), I am trying to switch up my runs.  Outdoor, speed, easy, etc so I am working different muscles.

Let’s just say I was thankful for an easy run and the decision to take an ice bath last night.  Yup!

That leads me to 53.5 miles towards my goal of Pile on the Miles 2013!  I know I’ve gotta keep a good pace up to meet my goal of 100 by the end of November, but I am confident and I WILL keep pushing hard 🙂

Scale Problem

Zach and I don’t own a scale.  99 days out of 100, this is a good thing.  But this morning I woke up feeling like I had honestly gained 10 lbs…yes this happens.  In stead of beating myself up, I ran, figuring I would feel better after.  Welp, I didn’t.  When I was showering and getting ready, my stomach still felt super weighed down and heavy.

While I try to NOT rely on the scale…I DID decide to hop on the scale we have here to work to see if my weight had actually fluctuated at all.  I have no idea if the scale is accurate, but it’s the only one I use and I can at least judge consistency.

Welp, shockingly enough (sarcasm) I hadn’t gained 10 lbs, and actually was right where I always am.   Just seeing that helped me to feel better.  In stead of saying “oh I’m fine…moving on” I decided that my body was still telling me something, and reached for a big glass of water and am making an effort to drink more water today.

While the scale may have helped me to feel better, I am still choosing to NOT let it dictate what my body is telling me overall and trying to still be forward thinking in feeling better.  H20 will be my friend today.

And that my friends, is my long story of the morning :).   I have a guest post planned for this afternoon, so stay tuned! 🙂

Question of the Morning:  Do you have a reliance on the scale?  Does your weight fluctuate a lot?
