The Speed Work That Wasn’t

Yup . . . sometimes you just have to acknowledge that it’s not your day.  But before we get to that, let’s talk about the fun stuff.

Yesterday

As I mentioned yesterday, I dropped Zach off at the airport around 8 AM so I had Sunday to myself.  That meant a whole lotta relaxing was in the plans.

(Follow me on Instagram here!)

I started with a new to me breakfast that I’ve seen around a lot, but never tried.  Bobo’s Oat Bars.  They’re pretty small, so if you have a big appetite I would probably include a piece of fruit.  But for me, especially with my tired tummy after a run, this was the perfect post-run breakfast.

The rest of the afternoon included a lot of reading, snacking, yoga and hanging out with the furballs.  Pretty perfect if you ask me.

With Zach gone my motivation to cook was pretty non-existent, so I decided to allow myself to succumb to my craving.

PANERA!

And of course, it was delicious as always.

I ordered a you pick two.  With the cobb salad

and turkey bacon bravo.

It was delicious, but my stomach continues to be VERY angry with me.  It had actually been much better the entire afternoon until I ate this.  Maybe all the bread??

Anyway — I hung out with Sean and Catherine last night (Bachelor Wedding, hello!), then crawled into bed hoping once again to wake up feeling better.

This AM

I did wake up feeling a little better, but not 100%.  I had speed work on the docket for this morning, and I sure tried . . . but it wasn’t happening.

I did the first 2 miles at speed, and then could NOT bare the pain I was having in my stomach/side (this time it felt like my abs being sore.  Maybe from the core work in yoga yesterday?).  So, I did a slow job for mile 3, and incline walked a bunch of the 4th mile.  Thankfully, I felt fine when I wasn’t running, so my guess is this time that it really was just a side stitch.  Dear lord I’m falling apart.

Workout of the day:  4 miles of attempted/failed speed work.

And now, it’s time for me to drink a Kambucha and eat a bunch of healthy, whole foods today to get whatever this crud in my body is OUT!  🙂

Have a great Monday all!

Question of the Morning:  Do you ever have side stitches/stomach problems?  Share in my misery? ha

Yoga or Wine?

I am convinced that the only thing better than a glass of wine after a long day of work is a nice yoga sesh.

Tonight, I tried a new to me routine, a 20 minute deep stretch routine by Hilaria Baldwin.

Not only did it get me out of my post-work grump, but it also help to stretch out body parts that were a little sore after this mornings WOD.

Double win for Yoga!

Just Call Me Mrs. Jara

Look what came in the mail today guys!

It’s official. . . new social security card and all.  I am Ashley Abbett Jara, or Ashley Nichole Jara, depending on what you’re looking at.  Uppsy.

But either way, this was SUCH a relief after what felt like months of trying to get this name change process rolling.  Mini celebration for this girl!  Break out the sparkling water . . . we’re gettin’ fancy tonight.

And speaking of tonight

Breaking Out the Crock Pot

DSC_0385

I broke out the crock pot for the first time tonight.  In hopes that Zach will have a healthy, warm meal, and amazing smelling home when he gets back tomorrow (about 6ish), I brought out the big guns.

If you follow me on Pinterest  (which you totally should…I’m totally becoming a pro guys ;), you saw that I’ve been searching for soup inspiration and dinner ideas the past few days.

Well I took what I found and made quite a good lookin’ meal for tomorrow.  Now it just has to sit in the fridge and I’ll let it cook on low all day tomorrow.

I’ll have the recipe for you tomorrow after we try and and can verify it’s tastiness!

Dinner Rut

You guys — I’m having the SAME EXACT dinner I had last night. . .

That’s right, Panera.  Just another reason it’s a good thing Zach comes home tomorrow.

So if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to heat up my soup and relax with some Kendra on Top.

Don’t judge, I gotta fit in my last bit of single time…going out in style here.

Question of the night: What is your routine after a particularly stressful day at work?

It’s Official. . . and My Kinda Panera

I watched a Lifetime movie today.

too-young-to-marry

Yes…it’s official.  Zach needs to get his butt home.  I’m resorting to drastic measures here around the house.

I enjoyed an apple fritter with my Lifetime movie

(that one’s a blueberry one, but you get the picture).

It’s a beautiful day here in Denver so I enjoyed a relaxing afternoon with the doors and windows open . . . until the early sunset.

As an early riser I really appreciated the sunrise by 7AM today . . . but I am still deciding whether or not it’s worth the shortened afternoons.  I think I’m leaning towards not worth it.  I already go to bed early, I don’t need the sun convincing me I should go to bed earlier!

My kinda Panera

I mentioned earlier in the week how I had been craving Panera.  Zach and I have gift cards, and for whatever reason I have been wanting it all week.  Well today, I finally fulfilled my Panera craving.

I ordered a you pick two with a Caesar salad and broccoli and cheddar soup, and whole grain baugette side.

Unfortunately, I’m a hungry lady, and the measly proportions weren’t doing it for me today (come on Panera!)

So. . . I bulked up my salad with a few extra greens and the left over chicken I had from the week.

Much better.

THAT is my kind of Panera.  I think mine looks better than what you get in the store, personally.

November Challenges

Pile on the Miles

pile-on-the-miles-2013-logo

4.33 miles between my 5k and afternoon walk with Gus 🙂 If were keeping track, thats

16.46 miles.  Not too shabby, but I’ve gotta stay on the move if I want to reach 100 🙂

Piper’s  Challenge

And I also completed day three of Piper’s 30 day thigh challenge.  Today included:

  • 10 lateral lunges
  • 20 scissors
  • 10 fire hydrants
  • 10 pile squat pulses

This challenge is alright so far…but as Piper and I talked about today, it’s going to get intense.

And just like that yall, another weekend in the books.

Thank goodness I have a delicious treat to soften the blow of the looming Monday! 🙂

Question of the Evening: Do you like the time change?
