Denver Sports Recovery

Good Morning and Happy oh so Happy Friday ❤

photo 1-54

Anyone else ready for the weekend?  This girl definitely is.

This week has been a descent week as far as fitness goes in my world.   It was quite the busy week, so I had to squeeze it in where I could, but #makeitapriority , right?

photo 5 (31)

Monday was a speedwork day.  This is an old picture, but I believe I ended up right around 4.25 miles after one mile warm up, 6 X 400 repeats and one mile cool down.  Make the best of the time you have . . .

Tuesday was all about a Crossfit mini routine + 30 minute hill ride

IMG_1750

Wednesday was a treadmill 10k with over half being done doing an interval hill routine.  #OUCH

And yesterday {Thursday}  i had a little more time than normal, so I asked my gym if there were any classes coming up.  Just my luck, there was a PiYo class in just about 15 minutes.  So I squeezed in 1000 meter row, and took my happy a$s up to class {see what i did there?}.

Ummm….not exactly what I expected.  We did not take a chill pill for the entire hour, and woah hello squats and lunges.  Was definitely more challenging mentally than the relaxed yoga class that I had in mind…but i wasn’t complaining.

Needless to say, I woke up tired and sore today.  Which made me envious of my experience last friday at

Denver Sports Recovery.

one

A couple of weeks ago I was approached about trying out a new-to-me recovery center here in Denver for athletes or people who are recovering from injury.

Umm, YES PLEASE!

two

from their website

It took more time than I’d care to admit for us to make our schedules work, but in the end it was definitely worth the wait!  From their website:

Denver Sports Recovery is a drop-in recovery center that gives professionals and everyday athletes access to state-of-the-art recovery tools, specialized service providers and space to treat your body to the best recovery options in Colorado.

Denver Sports Recovery gives you the opportunity to walk in and get high-quality care and recovery services that were once only available to professional athletes.

Get the treatment that you need in the time frame that works for you with our walk-in hours, membership and availability by appointment with a provider.

It’s time to make recovery a part of your training cycle:

Perform

Perform with precision and intensity.

Recover

Recover with a plan that is individually designed to give your body the treatment it needs to enhance performance and prevent injury.

Rebuild

Rebuild your body by taking the time to rest and restore your muscles.

Sounds pretty great, right?

From the second I walked it, the staff was super welcoming and right away started showing me the ropes.  photo 2 (51)

Of course, the first thing I noticed was this AWESOME new Sauna that they have right as you walk in the door.  Apparently it helps you to sweat out a TON more toxins than your standard sauna.  Hello, #awesome.

photo 3 (44)

The main room isn’t huge, but is filled with tons of machines and equipment that provide all different kinds of relief for sore or injured bodies, like so many of us have.

The doctor that was showing me around was very considerate and knowledgable, telling me about each and every machine/procedure that they offer and letting me try anything I may be interested along the way.

Now they have TONS of machines, but my tired legs specifically loved this little guy.

photo 4 (38)

I don’t know the specific name, but these pants filled up with air and completely compressed your legs in about 7  minute cycles.  I could have sat there all day. . .

The main room has everything from a hot and cool tub, cupping, lasers, sauna, and SO MUCH MORE.  This is definitely  not a gym, but more where you go to recover from too much time at the gym.  I’m just saying, there may or may not have been pro athletes in there while I was there.  #DenverNuggetsAreHuge

Here is a brief list of the machines they offer from their website

Month to month membership is 75 dollars per person if you do recurring, or 90 if you just do one month, and 780 for one year.  Hello, if you are injured, this is NOT BAD.

They also offer chiropractors, acupuncture, and therapeutic massage for an extra fee per use.

Don’t take my word for it though guys — check it out.  My Denver friends, they are located in LoHi and are definitely worth a look.  Check out their website!

I was asked to check out Denver Sports Recovery as a local blogger and given a free tour but all opinions are my own.

The New Norm

And just like that, two days have passed since we talked last.  Where does the time go, my friends?  Sadly I am still trying to figure out a new schedule, and am really trying to focus on prioritizing my time, so lately that has meant a little less time for writing.  That makes me sad, but know that I still love you all, still take lots of random iPhone photos, and will still check in when I can :).  So let’s get down to business…

Eats

IMG_1741

This pile of beauty and pure love was our Sunday morning brunch al fresco.  Chocolate chip pancakes for the win, every single time.

IMG_1743

And because I was all about Fall Sunday, I discovered a new favorite drink.  Yes it makes me sound like a difficult yuppie, but trust me it’s amazing.

Iced Americano.  2 pumps of pumpkin.  Splash of almond milk.  #tryitandthankmelater

IMG_1744

Apparently I didn’t stop at the pumpkin thanks to the brutal Bronco’s game us Denver folk had to deal with . . . White wine for the win.

IMG_1746

And because my life’s mission lately is to eat all the sushi, I continued to conquer my life goals and ate some Sprout’s goodness.

IMG_1747

But the REAL highlight of the week (and cause of my consistent stomach ache, #worthit) was anniversary cake.  Yup, as a part of our wedding cake contract we got a “free” cake to celebrate for our one year.  And boy did we take advantage of it.  This puppy was in no way, shape, or form Gluten free. And yup, I have felt it.  But like I said, totally worth it.  Thankfully, we finished that puppy off last night, and I think I’ve had my gluten fill for AWHILE.

Fitness

IMG_1748

I was crunched for time Monday night for my workout because we were going over to our friends for cocktails and snacks, so I worked on speed work to maximize the time.  1 mile easy pace (930) six 400 repeats with 60 seconds recovery in between, 1 mile easy pace, and walk it out until I got to 40 minutes.  Done.And.Done

IMG_1751

Tuesday I had about 60 minutes so I started with a 30 minute hill session on the bike for 8.5 miles

IMG_1750

Then did this Crossfit style work out.  Don’t be fooled by the small number of reps.  My legs were hurtin’ by the 4th and 5th round.

And then because it was right there, I did 25 superman’s on a medicine ball.  Yeah.

Otherwise

there hasn’t been much to report.   Zach and I finished Parenthood over the weekend (very sad day) and have started Orange is the New Black, so expect a whole new obsession (PS:  a little too much for me in the first few episodes.  But I’ve been able to look past it).

IMG_1749

Last night’s dinner was just a small quesadilla split between Zach and I, because we ate a ton of snacks at our friends, and really just wanted cake at that point.  #adultproblems.

Yeah, so really life as normal.  Long hours at work, but I’ve been making it work.  Zach and I are both settling in to the week MUCH more smoothly than the previous week, so we are thankful for that.

Talk to Me:  Cake or real food for dinner?  Adult problem?

This One Is Gonna Be Big

Happy Sunday everyone!   This week was insane to say the lease in the Jara household.  Thankfully we made it through fairly unscathed but man-oh-man we were both pushing it at times.  You know how it goes when you’re just trying to do TOO much?  Little things start falling through the cracks?  That was the these of this past week on our side, so by the time the weekend rolled around, we were more than ready to enjoy a quiet weekend in Denver, fairly low key.

It was without a doubt the perfect weekend, but let’s talk talk about that while we also talk about the last half of the week since I’ve been a bit absent, shall we?  This is gonna be long…

Work Outs

photo 5 (32)

Thursday I took a nice 2 mile walk up a hill to go get chips. . .

photo 1 (52)

Because quite frankly, what I brought to work for snacks wasn’t cutting it and they were highly necessary.  #noshame

photo 2 (50)

I also managed one of the toughest 5k’s I’ve had in awhile on the treadmill later that afternoon.  Oh well…my body was tired.  At least I didn’t let the mental aspect win and I finished without walking.  #winning

Friday was a total rest day, but I also got to do a really cool thing (thanks to the blog) and visit a recovery center here in Denver.

photo 4 (38)

It was a really cool opportunity and I’m excited to tell you guys all about it later this week!

Saturday I managed a 5.25 mile run on the treadmill, with 1000m rowing and 75 leg lifts on some crazy machine that I don’t remember the name of.

photo (12)

And then later in the afternoon I did my favorite 8 minute videos…because I was bored and Zach was out on a bike ride….yup.

Sunday Morning I made it to a 9 AM sculpt class at Core Power that nearly killed me, but was AWESOME.

photo 5 (30)

And am hopeful for a walk later this afternoon to a coffee shop if the weather holds up.  #fingerscrossed

Eats

photo 3 (40)

photo 4 (36)

My lovely parents sent me a very thoughtful Edible Arrangements to help get me through my tough week, and it was OH SO enjoyed….yum. #allthefruit

photo 1 (51)

Lots of salads with edemame and feta

photo 3 (42)

chicken that I dressed with the most amazing, disgusting sauce ever.

photo 2 (49)

Dont judge me…I found it at work and couldn’t help myself.  #worthit

photo 3 (43)

photo 4 (37)

Zach and I made it out for a happy hour Thursday night, which was short but highly necessary.  I’m learning that I LOVE Angry Orchard ciders. . . who knew?

photo 5 (33)

After a failed attempt at gluten free ravioli, Zach and I enjoyed some Annie’s GF mac and cheese with fresh veggies and bacon.  And had no complaints…

photo 1 (53)

Oh and peanut butter toast.  ALL the peanut butter toast.

photo 1 (54)

On Friday night we hosted  some family friends and enjoyed an evening on our patio.  We soaked up every second of it because we know these evenings are numbered at this point.

photo 5 (34)

And Saturday night Zach and I went out on a date night, that started out at an Oktoberfest at one of our favorite bars.

photo 2 (52)

Where I managed to get dragged into a stein holding contest. . .

photo 3 (45)

AND WON!  Seriously, Zach and I were laughing about it for the rest of the night.  I held the stein of water up for 8 minutes and hold the new record :).  I guess being stubborn pays off 😉

I won some adorable whiskey glasses and beer tickets, so I wasn’t complaining.  What a blast!  Thanks to my hubby for making it do it!

photo 4 (39)

We left the bar and ended up going to a local Mexican restaurant that was new to us…

photo 5 (35)

And ate small plate style.  Some of the best food we’ve had in awhile here in Denver.  We will definitely be back.  I was in date mode last night so I didn’t take many pictures, but trust me next time I will!

And that, my friends, basically catches us up.  It has been a great weekend on our sides, and I hope it has for you guys, too!  So, tell me all about em!!!!!!
