I Turned That Shi* Around

First and Foremost:  Happy Anniversary to the happiest, most inspirational couple I know.

You guys are the model of what couples strive to be, and I can only hope that in 30 years (yes I know it’s 31 years, but Zach and I have one under our belt so I’m subtracting) Zach and I are even half as happy as you two.  Keep it up you guys, you know what you’re doing.

Now to business….

You guys — today was just one of those days.

12 hour work day

A couple stressful events during said work day that I had not anticipated…

aaaaaa

I haven’t mentioned this yet on the blog but the hubby is overseas…

And overall I was just kind of in an “overwhelmed” kinda mood.  Not that it is overly abnormal for me as of late as I’m transitioning, but this afternoon was particularly tough.

And then. . . I turned it around.

I had a good talk with my amazing manager, which helped to put some things into perspective.

I talked to the boy from overseas, even though it was midnight his time.

aaaaaaaa

Because he’s amazing. . .

And then

aaaaa

…and then you guys.  I ran that shit out.  Excuse the language, but I did.

Work out

One mile warm up at an easy pace (about 940 minute mile)

800 repeats with 90 seconds active recovery

One mile cool down at an easy pace (about 930)

for a 60 minute work out and 6.35 miles.

My entire attitude had shifted and all of a sudden my day that felt so out of control, felt completely in control.

Sure, I wasn’t going to get home until after 7 PM.  Sure I was going to reheat mac ‘n’ cheese for dinner. But it all seemed OK.   I had turned what was a really tough afternoon around by simply taking control, and that was exactly the reminder I needed at this point in my life.

Thank you, running.  For never letting me down and always being there when I need you to feel better about myself, and just life in general.

And then guess what happened…

First Week In The Books + More Sushi

You know, between buying a house, switching jobs, travelis, and quite a few AMAZING visitors, life has been a little crazy lately.

But man did I wake up a happy camper this morning.

I am one of those people that needs me time.  That doesn’t always mean me being alone, on the contrary I often like to share “me time” with other people.  For me, the most beneficial “me time” moments are spent doing things that better myself.  That can be a long hike, a good run, making a healthy meal with my husband, or even giving my body the rest it needs.

I woke up around 745 this morning feeling incredibly well rested, which is something I always appreciate and never want to take for granted.  I have a feeling these four day work weeks are going to make a lot of life’s challenges seem a little easier to manage in the long run :).  Week one of work and training in the books, and I’ve gotta say while I’m a bit overwhelmed with all the information that was thrown my way in the first couple of days, I’m optimistic about the work that I am going to be able to do at this new agency.  Training by fire is something I’ve grown accustomed to, so this week wasn’t a complete shock.   I’m hopeful that each day I’ll continue to feel a little more comfortable in my own skin and ready to tackle whatever may come my way!

Some Eats

I actually didn’t feel awesome about my eats yesterday — way too snacky and not dedicated enough to healthy foods through out the morning and afternoon.

A bunch of frozen fruit that is not meant to look phallic, I apologize.

Some Starbucks that I don’t think really agreed with me.

More of these damn cookies that I can’t keep my grubby fingers off.

And then the hubby and I went out for another sushi date, because well I’m obsessed with sushi.

Our date night was another trip to Okinawa, which once again was a complete success.  At least my dinner eats made up for some crummy day time eats.

Workout/Fitness

Before our date night, because I was feeling just a tad crummy, I decided to carry myself to a Hot Power Fusion class at Core Power to sweat it out – in hopes of a mini detox.

Thankfully I did feel a little better after a good sweat and was up and ready for our date night right after :).

Plan for Friday

REST and relaxation 🙂 ❤  I’ll be back later to share any fun!

My First Day

You guys, my first day went WAY better than I could have even hoped for!  Let’s backtrack

Morning

I went to bed last night with a racing mind, naturally.  Seriously, my brain sometimes.  With that said, I did manage to fall asleep at a reasonable hour and slept really well, which is a godsend for this girl and productivity!

Workout

I started the day with my girl Jillian, and her Yoga Meltdown.  One of my favorites for a good stretch that still gets your heart rate up for a good 30 minutes or so.

Training

Despite a mini snafu / anxious breakdown, I managed to hit the road at a good time and made it to the training about 5 minutes before 8.  Making me the first person to show up.  Woot!

photo 1 (22)

Per my Instagram — I had to take a “first day of school” picture.  Unfortunately for you guys, it turned out a little more like a jail / warning shot. . . not sure where that came from.   Either way, I made it to the training without any issue and was ready to go thanks to some super ripe cantaloupe that went undocumented on my ride in.

The training focused on HR fun this morning {payroll, medical, dental, benefits in general} and by 11 AM, we were released for the day.  WOO HOO!  Take advantage…

Work out

Because I’m in a taper mode for the relay in less than two weeks, I had a loose plan of 2.5 tough miles + .5 walking.  Well, I definitely nailed the 2.5 miles, but underestimated just how far I had of a walk in front of me.  Oh well, it was nice to walk it out after a busy morning.

And now, my friends, it’s time to shut down and relax for the evening with the family.  I’ll be back tomorrow with a more comprehensive “Eats” post, of course 🙂
