We’ve all had them. Day’s where we have big plans for a work out or an activity that you look forward to all day.
A good run, a hike, bike ride? Good class?
And then for whatever reason, things just don’t happen as planned. That was the story of my little work out this afternoon.
Good Intentions
After yesterday’s Morning arm routine followed by an evening sculpt class, I woke up sore and exhausted. Like I mentioned in my previous post, my plan for the afternoon was a nice leisurely hike through my favorite area of the front range.
I woke up, did a brief morning yoga routine and even enjoyed a nice 2 mile walk at lunch. All warming myself up for an afternoon hike.
Welp, mother nature put a wrench in those plans with scattered storms. Rain in the mountains is not something I like to mess with, so I decided to lace up my shoes and try and make it out for a run before it got too bad outside near work, even though my legs were beat.
Nope, two laps of the park near my office and right around one mile later, the rain came with a vengeance (and my car windows were down a bit, upps). I made it back to the car hoping that I could get some miles at home.

Once again, less than a mile in, mother nature decided to continue messing with me and brought more rain. This time nice enough to be dripping inside of my sunglasses. Awesome.
At this point, I decided enough was enough, and that someone was telling me I need to take it easy today. And to be completely honest, my tired legs weren’t willing to push through any more obstacles.
Two more miles for a grand total of 3 miles for the evening.
I wrapped up the work out with some 8 minute abs (time 2) and called it a day.
What was intended to be a nice hike turned into a very wet short and slow run that my legs didn’t want to do, with some core work thrown in for good measure. Oh well. . . you can’t win ’em all, right?
Dinner
At least dinner wasn’t a let down! On the menu for tonight was grilled tacos, one of our favorite staples.
In the mix tonight was:
- Grilled onion
- Grilled peppers
- Grilled squash
- Fresh homemade guac
- + Corn tortillas char grilled.
I’m actually most impressed with my experimental homemade guac. I found some “ripe” avocados at Whole Foods yesterday, and figured I needed some healthy fats in my diet, so why not? The avocado worked out perfectly in my little homemade creation!
Fresh Guac
- One avocado, cut and smashed
- One garlic clove, pressed
- 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper
- 6 small cherry tomatoes cut into halves/quarters
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Just mix it all together and serve!
YUM YUM I wasn’t really feeling anything for dinner tonight, but the mix of fresh ingredients and grilled goodies definitely satisfied my confused taste buds.
Missed Pictures
And just for good measure, the pictures that I forgot on my cell phone yesterday
An awesome and TOUGH sculpt class that left me quivering

Happy Thursday Everyone!
Tell me about your last work out that wasn’t. I can’t be the only one, right?
I just slept in yesterday rather than going for a run. So at least you tried! The worst part is I didn’t even go back to sleep. I just laid there for another hour and a half. So there was really no point in missing my workout!
We have all days like that. Sometimes are bodies just need the rest, even if it isn’t actual sleep!
This was my case yesterday too! I was supposed to run at lunch but decided a night time run would be better. Just as I was going outside thunder hit and the rain came down so I did a 5k on the treadmill while my husband decided to run in the rain! It was the worst 5k supposed to be 6k in a long long time!
Oh MAN have I been there!
ummm it still sounds like workouts to me, missy. 🙂 my workout that wasn’t was yesterday — exhaustedddd all day and couldn’t talk myself into doing a darn thing. turns out to be a good thing, as it made for a better run this am.
That is such a good point — I had planned to try and redo a longer run today, but woke up knowing that wasn’t supposed to happen. In stead, a hot yoga class in hopes for fresh legs in the next few days!
I am just impressed you powered through and go 3 miles and a 16 minute abs workout! I probably would have called it a day after the first rain mishap!
I was tempted!
Today actually, had a plan to run outside as well. Got home from work and just wasn’t feeling it. I did an at home boxing/kickboxing 60 minute video instead. Was drenched in sweat when I was done so i guess it worked itself out anyway. 🙂
Way to still make your sweat a priority!
Your food always looks so good. It definitely inspires me. Coming back from an injury I am trying to shed a few pounds that crept up when I couldn’t run. I was stuck in front of the computer all morning and missed my favorite way to start the day with some sort of arm/ab exercises. I did manage a nice 8 mile run tonight and had great intentions of making up today’s missed work out in the evening. But it didn’t happen. Tomorrow is another day, right?
Cheers to you for the 8 miler! And don’t worry, ours body are smart and efficient. I mean come on, you’re already running 8 miles there can’t be much weight to lose!
You are most definitely not the only one. I had a workout that wasn’t last week. I planned to run seven miles and only made it three before my body shut down. I was glad my husband was with me because I got real worried for a little while. Sometimes we just have to give in no matter how disappointed it makes us.
Glad you listened to your body!
Missed workouts happen! I work out in the mornings almost exclusively, and there are days when I need to sleep in and rest instead of push through the fatigue.
