Have I mentioned that I leave for my honeymoon in Austria in 3 days?!
Ok, Maybe I have. I am just a wee bit excited :).
Moving on . . .
Last night was the perfect relaxing evening for this lady. If you follow me on twitter, you would have read that I may have watched a Lifetime movie last night. . . The Party Never Stops, or something like that? Man on man — the things I do when I’m left alone.
And of course, I enjoyed another salad/Whole Foods hot bar bowl for dinner.
With a nice side of Whole Foods tortilla chips and a glass of wine.
My perfect little evening :).
This Morning
I woke up actually feeling really good this morning, and ready to tackle a good and tough run.
I played it easy for the first 10 minutes, gauging my body and specifically my stomach/side. Fortunately, I felt strong and was ready to attempt some good speed work.
I repeated the work out that I first tried last week, and let me tell you it was just as challenging as last week.
Workout of the day: 50 minutes with 30 minutes speed work
- 10 minutes warm up
- 1 minute 4.0
- 1 minute 8.0
- 1 minute 9.0
- Repeat X 10
- 10 minute cool down
I had absolutely zero pain in my chest/stomach and felt pretty good for the bulk of the run. WOO HOO!
New Product
I have been feeling VERY iffy at best after runs lately. . . just worn down. I know a big part of that is not getting food back into my system fast enough. Well this morning I took the opportunity to change that and try a new product that was sent to me to sample.
CORE POWER sent me a bag of their products to sample (GIVEAWAY COMING WHILE I’M ON MY HONEYMOON, BE ON THE LOOKOUT). Now, I’m gong to be honest with you guys, I am NOT normally someone to drink my calories, (except for wine and beer). Normally I prefer to eat my calories, but I am terrible about replenishing after a run. My stomach is off and I have zero appetite. Well – let me tell you. I tried the Strawberry Banana flavor drink this morning and actually really loved it. And the best part, I still feel good over 2 hours after my run. That’s pretty impressive.
Some states about this drink that I also LOVE
- 20 g of protein, hello.
- Fewer calories than comparable drinks
Here’s what they say on their website
Counting calories, but still paying attention to how much protein you take in? You and our reduced calorie 20g lineup are a match made in heaven! Low in calories, but high on great taste, the Light version comes in Chocolate and Strawberry Banana.
Well, I must say. I am a believer. And my stomach and body say THANK YOU CORE power.
Would I buy this product myself: Yes, absolutely. Especially with longer runs coming up in my future, and hoping to get back into strength training.
Question of the Morning: How do you replenish after a good run/workout?
I’m such a weirdo..after a run outside I walk into the house, straight to the fridge, drink some powerade zero and then grab a handful of olives or a pickle. Um, salt much?
Oh no I crave salt crazy style after my long runs. And soda when it’s hot. . . weird.
I use Vega One mixed in with some sort of smoothie (usually banana, almond milk, berries, nut butter etc)…its the best for me because its dairy, soy and gluten free. I love their Vanilla Chai flavor.
I’ve seen those around that might be worth a shot to try. . .
Like you, I’m usually bad about eating after a run. I usually don’t feel like it. BUT ever since Kyle and I started our Saturday morning bagels, I’ve been better. So on Saturday, it’s a bagel. On other days, sometimes it’s a protein shake or maybe an apple with nut butter.
I haven’t noticed just how bad I am about until recently . . . and it’s something I’ve GOTTA get better about if I want to get stronger!
Yesterday after my long morning of working out I made a delicious smoothie with my new blender. I used a scoop of zachs chocolate protein powder, a scoop of peanut butter, a banana and almond milk, blended it with some ice cubes and it was delicious! Also held me over for a few hours until lunch.
I NEED to get better about it — I have no excuses I just have NO appetite. But then I crash and feel TERRIBLE for the bulk of the day. NO good.
Im the opposite! Most of the time a run helps work up my appetite 🙂
I wish it did mine!
Tae Kwon-Do brings it down though… I really have to push myself to eat after training… maybe usually because it’s later? I don’t know…
Looks like a good speed session! I’m bad about replenishing too, but I have found that protein drinks work wonders after long runs
It helped today for sure — it is something I am gong to try and keep doing!
I usually try to have a piece of fruit like a banana or an apple with a little bit of protein and fat like some nuts. Or a smoothie, so that strawberry banana drink sounds right up my alley.
I’m so excited for you!! You’re gonna love it! Take a bunch of pictures for us 😀 Safe travels!
Thanks hun! 🙂 I will!
So jealous! Have a great time! Looks like a great speed workout, too!
Thanks! 🙂
I’m so excited for you; 3 days to go! 🙂
WOOT WOOT!
I’m awful about eating after a run. On a long run, sometimes food is all I think about, but by the time I finish it’s the last thing I want to focus on. Typically I will make myself a great smoothie with fresh fruits, spinach or kale, and a touch of plain Greek yogurt. It keeps me full and it tastes so delicious!
Everyone keeps mentioning smoothies this may be where I need to go!
yay, austria! ugh, whole foods! i’m a huge coconut water advocate post-workout. that, and a banana.
That’s actually a really good idea I love chocolate coconut water
add some TO your smoothie 😉 best of both worlds
Have a great honeymoon! I have the same issue as you do, in that I don’t like eating after a run (or rather, my body doesn’t want to!). I therefore often drink a soy chocolate milk after my longer runs, which works really well for me. Although, like you, on paper I like the idea of eating something solid much better, it’s just not always practical.
Us runners are a weird bunch, huh? 🙂 I need to start keeping chocolate milk around . . .
Austria will be awesome for your honeymoon, I am excited to see the pictures! I really like to enjoy some hummus after a workout… but really I like to enjoy hummus just about anytime of the day 🙂
Interesting that’s a new one for me!
This stuff sounds awesome! I need something like this as well in my routine! I just have not found it until now! 🙂 Do they sell it at like Target?
3 MORE DAYS!!!
You know I don’t know if they sell it at target because it was given to me to review, but I bet you could find it on their website and figure out!
There’s a whole foods down the street from where I work. I need to take more advantage of it.
After a run I like to drink a mixture of pure coconut water and chocolate almond milk.
You absolutely do need to take advantage! It is expensive but totally worth it.
Oh that sounds like such a nice evening and that bowl looks so good!
