We dusted off our ski gear this morning and hit the mountain.
That is, of course, after a quick 2 miler for me on the ol’ treadmill. Because of course, even if I’m skiing I can’t break the streak.
Honestly, there is something about the entire ski process that makes me so happy. I got woken up by the husband and a small cup of coffee to slowly wake myself up. Skiing always gets him excited, so he’s up way before me. But it was a nice surprise to wake up with a warm cup of coffee and a chatty boy. Perfect way to enjoy the AM on a Saturday.
While Zach got everything packed and ready to head up to the mountain, I hit up the gym. Talk about easy. We stopped and got an indulgent breakfast breakfast of scones and turn overs, because that’s just part of the routine.
We enjoyed the snow packed mountains as we drove up 70. As you near the continental divide in Colorado it’s like you’re crossing over into a different world. Beautiful.
Then of course we hit Loveland pass and the excitement begins. I started gearing up and we started getting pumped. Traffic was consistent, so we knew the mountain would be packed. We weren’t wrong. At 930 we had to park in the upper lot, a good walk away. But that’s all a part of the day. You gear up with all your fellow crazy skiers and treck to the lift.
Yes, there’s a long line today. But people are excited, everyone’s enjoying the fresh mountain air, and you can hear hoots and hollers from the lift.
Sure, we only got a half day in (you can only ski the same 2 runs so many times), but we still can’t wipe the grins off our face.
There really is something about skiing.
The comradeary and excitement of everyone around you reminds me of race day. You’re all there for the same reason. You’re all a little miserable and question the decision to make that last push for your last run, but loving absolutely every single second of it. And cheering along your new best friends every step of the way. It’s pretty great.
I am excited for ski season :).
I’ll be back later with a recap with more pictures and details from the rest of the weekend. It’s time for me to enjoy some good beer, veggies and dip, and my family.
Quesiton of the afternoon: Do you ski, or have you?
Yay yay yay we are so excited too! Today was first tracks for Vermonters as well. We didn’t go, but we did hit up a ski sale last night. My husband is an early riser – last year we got up at 4 one day to go. I took Nyquil the night before to help me sleep.
I don’t recommend that.
I ended up sitting out the first hour or so with major nausea, ha! Glad you enjoyed your first of many days to come…
My husband would DEFINITELY get up at 4, or any hour of the morning to ski! No doubt about it! Hope you get out soon 🙂
Sounds so fun!! It’s been far too long since the last time I went skiing, but now that I live in the PNW, we’ve got a handful of mountains to choose from that I’ll have to check out this year 🙂
You should!
Gawww sooo fun! Can’t wait for the recap and pics!! I learned to ski when I was really little and I love it. I also learned to snowboard in high school just for fun. People always ask me which one I love more, but I can’t really choose 🙂
I thought about you out there! I really wanted to make a snow man!
LOL! Did ya??
Love this! (and slightly jealous you are skiing all ready…our “hills” aren’t ready until mid to late dec). I love skiing…grew up downhill skiing and then taught cross-country skiing and fell in love with that. We took Lilly for the first time last year…by far, the BEST parenting day ever for me 🙂
Awwwe we talked to a kiddo today who had been skiing since 18 months!
I’ve been skiing a couple of times but not for the past couple of years, this post definitely made me miss it though. I wasn’t very good but i remember having a lot of fun skiing 🙂
It’s the best!
So exciting. Can’t wait for the hills to open up here too.
It’s worth the wait 🙂
I learned how to snowboard a few years ago when I was almost 50 pounds heavier and it was really difficult for me! I didn’t stick with it. My husband grew up skiing and really enjoyed it but for some reason I never learned to ski.
ahhh i’m getting envious just reading this and remembering my snowboard bum days in Buena Vista/Salida. which mnt did you go to? i used to work at Monarch! i’m 100% snowboarder but have love for all mountain sporters. 🙂
Zach wants to go to Monarch so bad!! We went to A-Basin, it’s the closest to us and has terrain that is crazy-skiing-Zach approved 😉
I do love skiing, but have only done it 3 times. Once at Winter Park, once at Park City, Utah, and once at Crystal Mountain just south of Seattle. Wish I had more opportunities to!
Winter Park is our “home” mountain. A definitely fav.
I snowboard, but I love the entire process too! It’s about the only thing that I’ll wake up super early for – and be happy about it! lol. Do you guys have season passes? I have the abasin/keystone pass.
