I wish I could explain to you all how much this blog and the community I’ve been lucky enough to become a part of means to be.
Specifically on days like today.
I STRUGGLED in my race today guys. I mean it was hard. 30 degree temperatures, lots of hills, mental fatigue. Struggled BAD. But something that kept me moving forward was knowing how much you all had believed in me — and how much I DID NOT want to disappoint you, or myself. This blog has been good since day one about holding me accountable, but today you guys helped to get me through 13.1. And for that, I don’t even know how to begin to thank you.
I’ll be back with a recap tomorrow…but for tonight, I am EXHAUSTED.
Directly after the race, my family and I hurried home to shower up and head to the air port.
I was in a hurry to get there because my number one priority were booze and food by that point.
The tap room at the end of East Terminal in St Louis is surprisingly good and my go-to when I make it home.
I ordered a grilled buffalo chicken salad and ate pretty much all of BOTH Of my parents fries. Because that’s how I roll.
I got on the plane still feeling good, but honest to god CRASHED the second we got into the air. I don’t know what happened, but all of a sudden I was asleep. I guess my body was tired?
I slept off and on for about an hour — then read more of my book and snacked on some Wheat Thins (I am going to become a Wheat Thin…).
By the time I got home — I was beyond exhausted but excited to see my furry family
Obviously they’re thrilled to see Mom as well.
And now, it’s more salad, wheat thins, wine and water for this girl. Until I crash. Yes it’s not even 730, but hey I’ve been up since 330 my bodies time and I ran 13.1 today.
This my friends, has been the weirdest, craziest, BEST Sunday I’ve had in a long time — I’m just sad to see it end 🙂
Back tomorrow with a full recap. Love you all!
Question of the Night: I feel disconnected! Please fill me in on your weekend!
I saw your time earlier and so a big congrats on that! I’m sorry to hear that today was a struggle. It’s always a bummer when those struggling days that we all have, happen to fall on a race day. I look forward to the post tomorrow for the recap. Glad you were able to get your food and booze though, ha. Always a good thing after a race. Anytime I do a half marathon or a marathon I let myself eat pizza without feeling bad about all the awful calories and salt, so good work on eating two fry servings. 🙂
haha there was NO guilt for those fries!
Congrats on your PR! Enjoy some recovery time this week 🙂
Thanks so much 🙂
Also excellent choice with fries…after the Denver 13.1 I scarfed down about a quarter of a pan of brownies
I am OK with this one. For sure.
Can’t wait to read your race report! 13.1 is my favourite distance to run, I think! Just long enough to wipe you out, but not so long as to kill ya. 🙂 Well done, and I hope recovery goes well!
Yay. So happy for you. It’s always good to be home with the pets too!!
Congrats on your half! Rest up!
wow! a PB on a race where you struggled is even more impressive 🙂
I am generally amazed by anyone who can run that far! 5k is still my race of choice, and I am still very slow!
Congrats on your PR! I know all about having a hard time on race day 🙂 There will be plenty more races.
Thanks so much hun! 🙂
You did it! It doesn’t have to be pretty it just has to be done. Those difficult races are the best character builders, and make the easy races seem that much better. Enjoy recovery this week and don’t forget to eat some protein for those muscles!
❤
I couldn’t agree more! Thank you 🙂
Beating those days where the run is the toughest might suck, but you should be extra proud! Good job, and keep climbing!
Thanks so much! I am still riding high on a proud cloud for the time being 🙂
Can’t wait for the race recap!
WOOOHOOOO!!!! You did it. 🙂 Nice job working through the struggle – now it’s over – yay! Can’t wait for the recap.
Thanks so much lady 🙂
I know what you mean about crashing after a long day like that! I seem to do it each weekend after my long runs! I”ll recap my weekend in just a bit on my blog!
It was the weirdest thing, hit me like a ton of bricks. I was great, then out.
GREAT JOB ON THE 13.1 ASHLEY. We all have the tough days to run and if it is on race day that just sucks. But to get a PB on a day like that is a big deal. The time shift and the cooler than optimum temp worked against you but you prevailed; ) Your post race food/drink sound great. Once again, beer is great as it goes through the system quick and flushes out the minerals etc that build up in you kidneys due to the dehydration – so beer and water are good. Also there is food value in beer. Light work outs to work out the soreness will be good this week. Get the 13.1 sticker for your car – Luv U – Bop
