But I ended up going against the afternoon’s votes and hitting the treadmill this afternoon.
The 91 degrees at 5 PM were enough to know that I wouldn’t hit the mileage I was hoping for, at least not safely or happily. So — I got over it myself, sucked it up, and hit the treadmill.
Workout of the Day: Treadmill 10K
- First 5k right under 30 minutes, steady 6.1-6.5 run
- Second 5k in 27:40, with one mile at 7.1 on the tread, the rest varying speeds based on my boredom
Honestly — this was one of the easiest runs I’ve had all season. . . minus some tummy problems between the 5k’s. Seriously, that’s two runs in a row. . . what’s up with that? I’ve never had an issue with it before . . . any ideas?
Dinner
Zach also went on a long bike ride this afternoon — so needless to say we were hungry kiddos.
On the menu tonight: Carne Tacos
Yup — we ate mexican last night, but both stayed away from tacos so we could enjoy them tonight. Zach even had left over mexican for lunch today — it never gets old in this household.
Grilled Green Peppers
Grilled corn tortillas
And of course, delicious carne arsada
And my only addition to the table tonight: A simple homemade pico
Homemade Pico
Serves 4
- 3/4 can of Rotell Diced Tomatoes with Green Chilies
- 1/8 yellow onion raw
- 1 clove of garlic raw
- 1 leaf of kale diced
- 1/2 teaspoon of dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon of pepper
- 1 tablespoon of parmesan cheese
It was a delicious and fresh topper to some great tacos
All together now!
Homemade tacos!
Cheers!
Question of the Night: Do you consider treadmill runs “cheating?”
I try and push the speed or intervals to make it feel like I’m NOT cheating to be completely honest. . .
Treadmill running is definitely NOT cheating! Especially if you keep your pace and use the incline. I trained solely on treadmill for one of my half marathons. I now prefer an outside run and rarely use the treadmill – but every now and then it’s nice to run while watching a great movie 🙂
I love running and watching TV on the treadmill — it keeps the run mindless. Glad you don’t think it’s cheating 🙂
I don’t see it as cheating, one because I find the treadmill more mentally difficult then running outside, and the other because when I run outside I run so many hills, or have to battle the awful humidity, so some days I feel that I need to hit the treadmill in order to get what I need for the day without over doing it, which might put me behind on my next run. Or for example Saturday I got off work and it was too dark to run, so I had to do the treadmill, it was my only option. So I did 6 miles while watching The Bourne Identity (love me some Matt Damon!)
Oh Matt Damon!
Couldn’t agree more — my legs were still exhausted from the speed work yesterday, so I knew I’d STRUGGLE to get the miles I wanted in the heat. Treadmill, makes it possible 🙂
I feel your pain. It’s impossible to workout in FL after 9 a.m… Can’t wait for the cooler weather 🙂 I need to make homemade tacos soon, yours look delicious!
They were awesome! And I can’t even imagine Florida heat! Do you like it in FL?
I love Fla! I’ve lived in Orlando almost all my life (originally from Ohio)… It’s nice in the suburbs but very touristy around the attractions, obviously. If I were to vacation I’d definitely visit Ft. Lauderdale or Miami! And Disney is always great, too 🙂
I may have some FL new in the next couple of months which is why I asked. Nothing about me directly, but it has me curious in the Orlando area 🙂
If you have any questions at all just email me!! healthnutjulie@gmail.com
I will be taking advantage of that when I get the OK 🙂 thanks so much hun!
No problem 🙂
So not cheating. I’ve trained for my fastest races primarily on treadmills. I like them unlike most people. Lol. I like being close to water and watching tv. Whateverrrr. 🙂 I could eat Mexican every day!
I love that people are agreeing with me and telling me I didn’t cheat. It just feels SO much easier for me on the treadmill, but maybe that’s just because mentally I can check out, where on the streets I have to pay much more attention.
No, not at all. I typically run on a treadmill. Living in the Northwest the only other option during the fall/winter/spring is to be completely soaked most of the time when running outside. I know there’s a large group of people who don’t mind this, but I get SO cold so easily that it’s actually counter productive. It’s also incredibly hilly where I live, so if I combine that with the cold and rain it just does my head in. I think if I had a running group it would make it better and I’d run outside more often.
Yum! Dinner looks tasty!
As far as the dreadmill… er, I mean the treadmill goes, I don’t think it’s cheating at all. If anything, it’s more of a mental challenge than running outside could ever be. I’m also in Florida and running for any distance in the summer is not only miserable, but dangerous.
Regardless of how you chose to do it, nice job getting the run in!
Well thank you 🙂 That was kind of how I saw it yesterday. VERY hot and still sunny — I knew I’d really struggle to be able to get the kind of miles I needed in. And figured I take advantage while I live in a building that has a tiny gym!
WHAT?? 10K on a treadmill!! Congrats twin! I don’t think I have the mental strength to do that…
I actually find the treadmill ODDLY easy. I guess it’s the Denver air and hills. . .
Man I wish I could run well on treadmills! I usually run at least a minute slower on the treadmill- and that’s me dying to keep up…
I think that’s MORE common — to be slower on the treadmill. I’m the odd ball!
