Recap of New York # 1

Happy Sunday and Labor Day weekend all 🙂

telling-secrets-come-labor-on

It’s been an amazing weekend in New York celebrating an amazing couple, but I’m glad to be back to you all and a bit more of normal life.  That is, before our own craziness starts next week 🙂

This weekend has been PACKED full of fun events, so one recap just won’t do :).  That means you guys get LOTS of New York and wedding fun.

Let’s start from the beginning.

Denver to New York

This is a far trip, let me tell you.  I woke up Friday morning at about 730 and squeezed in a quick workout because I knew that if I didn’t, I’d be antsy for my day full of travel.

Workout for the day:  Friday

  • 5 minute warm up on the treadmill
  • Squats
  • Ab twists with weights
  • Chest press
  • Lunges
  • Leg press
  • Reverse rows
  • Incline sit ups
  • Ab twists with weights
  • 5 minute cool down on the treadmill

It was quick, but did the trick (I rhyme!).   About 40 minutes in the gym, then a quick shower, packing and we were on the road.

Delicious, I swear!

I had a peach smoothy on the way to the airport  (just peach, ice cubes and a bit of yogurt) that did not look appetizing but was actually FULL of fresh peach flavor.  It was the perfect quick breakfast to get me through the air port.

Unfortunately, my planned next book, Insurgent, hadn’t come in the mail by Friday, so I was forced to find reading material in the air port.

25 dollars later. . . but at least it’s provided me with necessary entertainment.  I’m a little about 150 pages into it so far, and am absolutely roped in.

The flight from Denver to New York was scheduled for a little over 3 hours in the air.

Zach was obviously excited about our travels.  At least we had reinforcements.

It wasn’t the greatest thing I’ve ever eaten, but it was the healthiest air port option I could find and quite frankly, did the trick of satisfying me through the flight.

Besides eating, which I pretty much do constantly while traveling, Zach and I both settled in and read for the bulk of the flight.

We got into New Jersey a little after 5 PM EST, but didn’t get on the road until well after 6 due to some issues trying to get our rental car.

Sweet Ride!

Have any of you ever driven in New Jersey? Hello confusing!

Our road trip, expected to be just under 2.5 hours, began by making a wrong turn directly out of Newark Airport.  Yup, should have been a sign 🙂

At least the Hudson River Valley provides some beautiful views.

Borrowed because it was too dark to get good pictures by the time we were driving through.

About 3.5 hours, and 2 major wrong turns later, we made it to Hudson hungry and tired.

Our first stop was dinner, and DaBa .

It was well after 9 by the time we made it to DA BA.  Our first thoughts after the long day of travel, a nice drink.

Unfortunately we were unable to get any pictures of the food because the lighting was far too dark, but I ordered a Kale Salad.   The salad included some yummy toppings, like nuts and dried dates, but all in all was lacking in some flavor.

Zach had a burger and we split some fries, which were both pretty awesome.

By the time dinner was done, we were both exhausted and just headed back to our B and B (Hudson b and b I’ll do a full review later, but we LOVED it).

I woke up the next morning a bit exhausted still but ready to run.  It’s always exciting for me to run in new places.  It’s one of the best ways to explore!

I set out at about 715 AM (hello 515 my bodies time, wth?!) for a short run.

Workout for the day:  4.18 miles in Hudson

Hudson definitely reminded me of a small East Coast town.  Not nautical, but very East coast.

The city was beautiful!  And really, there’s no better way to see a new place than running.

And once I got back from the run, it was time to eat breakfast and get ready for the festivities. 🙂

I’ll be back later with a recap of the wedding fun! 🙂

Question of the night:  What is your favorite city or place that you’ve run?

Liebster Award from New York :)

I could not be more excited or proud that I was nominated for a Liebster Award while on vacation by the AMAZING Ms. healthnutjulie.com, so last night while Zach was sound asleep next to me, I filled out the questions because you know I can’t leave you hanging!  Thanks so much for nominating me!  I couldn’t be more excited!
  1. Why do you blog? I’ve actually been a part of the healthy living blog community for a few years now as a total creeper/stalker (we all were at one point, right?).  I have been so inspired and touched by different blogger stories over the years, I couldn’t help but be inspired to start my own.  Since I’ve started, I’ve noticed just how amazing the connection I’ve made to the community is already and how much I look forward to coming and talking to you all each day 🙂
  2. What’s your favorite part about blogging?
Oh the community by far!  I seriously feel like I know so many of you all it’s been amazing.  The love, support, and encouragment that everyone gives never ceases to amaze me.   That, and the accountability blogging gives me in my own healthy living journey by being surrounded by so many inspiring people all the time.  I don’t ever want to let you all or myself down, and that’s a pretty strong motivational tool :).
  3. What’s your least favorite part about blogging?
I am so attached to blogging I can’t help but want to be connected at all times.  I would say my least favorite part of blogging is hoestly my struggle to unplug enough.
  4. What are your 3 favorite blogs and why? Oh I almost don’t want to answer this question because there are so many amazing blogs that I love so much.  But if we’re talking my favorite long standing blogs, it would have to be 1. HUNGRYRUNNERGIRL.  She is a running inspiration and also lives a life of balance that I appreciate.  She manages to be optimistic and inspirational even on the worst days, and I hope to someday be more like her!  2. PEANUTBUTTERFINGERS.  Honestly, who doesn’t love her?  She has an amazing ethic, great recipes, and is just plain fun to read consistently.  And finally, the one and only CARROTSNCAKE. I feel like Tina is the original, and no matter how many changes her life has gone through, she’s stayed true to herself through her blog, and I really respect that.
  5. What is your favorite social media outlet and why?  I’m still learning many of the social media outlets myself, and quite frankly and not very good at them.  But if I had to pick one, I would say twitter because it seems like the most efficient and widely used outlet around.
  6. Have you or will you ever vlog?  I haven’t, but I am open to it once I get a little better versed on the whole concept 🙂
  7. What is one word that you would want people to describe your blog as being?  I LOVE Miss healthnutjulie ‘s answer of inspirational, because that’s really what I hope to be for people (we all do, right) .  But I want to be original, so I would say motivational, true/real (to me), or positive.
  8.  If you could (or have) work with one brand, which one would it be and why?  Ohh . . . fun!  For food, I should say ThinkThin because I eat their dang bars daily.  But just in general, I would say a running brand, like Brooks because I know it would inspire me to push myself harder.
  9. What’s your favorite thing to blog about?  Honestly, temporarily the wedding because I’m just loving every second of it.  But in general, I would say running.  It is my passion, and it is something I just can’t speak enough about.
  10. Who’s your favorite housewife? (yes, I’m totally serious!) I don’t know if I’m ashamed to admit this, but I’ve honestly never watched an episode! Ahh! I apologize to anyone I offended!

Thanks so much for the nomination healthnutjulie!  And now, I nominate

fitnessmeetsfrosting.com — my blogging twin

runningtoherdreams.com – she shares my passion for running, even through injury.

corrieanne.com who loves running and still manages to squeeze in a crossfit session or two 🙂

Honestly, there are so many more amazing bloggers I’d love to nominate, you know who you are out there 🙂

I’ll be back later today to recap the wonderful wedding filled weekend in New York!  Hope you all are having an amazing Labor Day weekend.  I’ll leave you with a quick picture of us little happy couple before we left for the weekend!
